Excessive Hype
Recommendation of the day: If only one doctor is promoting a particular product or technique, be very skeptical. This is particularly true of proprietary names surgical procedures where the physician has to pay a fee to be able to advertise the name. In these situations, in general, the fee to the franchise company is a huge percentage of the procedure fee meaning that the patient is paying more for the name of the procedure than they are the procedure itself.
If one particular product or technique is so great, every plastic surgeon would be using it or doing it. When a lot of physicians are using the same product, it is probably the best available and is considerably better than another product that only one physician is promoting.
Also be very wary of procedures and products promoted by national physician television shows. These are virtually always paid advertisements: They talk about it on national TV and get money stuffed in their pockets regardless of the quality of the product.
